It was founded in the late 18th century by Khot, who sold plots of land to local East Indian families. Hence most of the inhabitants today are almost all East Indian Catholics and that is the reason the area is dotted with crosses and altars. Recently Gujaratis and Marwaris have moved into the area.
When you amble through the narrow streets of Khotachiwadi, you will feel you are walking through a Portuguese village with its small and low one-storeyed villas made of timber, influenced by the Portuguese style of architecture.
Visit Khotachiwadi before the beautiful villas disappear to make way for the concrete jungle of the present age.
