At one time Lalbaug used to be the centre of the Cotton Textile Mills industry. Situated here is a teeming market selling a variety of chilies, tobacco in different forms and other precious spices like cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg etc.
This walk also provides a cultural insight into this area where besides the local Maharashtrians stay, there are also other communities like the Muslims and Parsis.
Besides the spices there is also a dried fish market.
The ever popular fried snacks that came from the Gujaratis – Farsan is made in bulk and sold here at Farsan Gulli.
You will also see a vegetable market, household items, kitchenware, incense, besides wedding and religious knick knacks which are also sold here.
Duration: Approximately 1-11/2 hour walk. Add extra time to and from your hotel which could take an hour upwards depending on where your hotel is situated. You could do this tour on its own or at an extra fee club it with any other tour.
